Holy Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake—revered as the center of creation and the Universe—are believed to be as ancient as existence itself. For thousands of years, sages, saints, philosophers, and devotees have immersed themselves in divine bliss at the very sight of this majestic spiritual power. Known by many sacred names—Meru, Sumeru, Sushumna, Hemadri (Golden Mountain), Ratnasanu (Jewel Peak), Karnikachala (Lotus Mountain), Amaradri, Deva Parvatha (Summit of Gods), Ganaparvatha, Ajatadri (Silver Mountain)—Mount Kailash is regarded as Swayambhu, the self-created cosmic center from which all energies arise and eventually return. It represents the point where consciousness and matter unite and dissolve.
Mount Kailash is globally venerated as the divine abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing the eternal balance of Purusha and Prakriti, Shiva and Shakti. The shimmering silver peak is often described as the throne of Truth, Wisdom, and Bliss—Sachidanandam. Ancient scriptures state that the cosmic vibrations—originating from AUM (Nadabindu) and the dance of Nataraja—gave form to the universe and the essence of Atman, the ultimate truth. It is believed that one who bathes in Mansarovar Lake and completes the sacred Kailash Parikrama is freed from all past karmas and attains spiritual liberation, becoming one with Lord Shiva.
Beyond Hinduism, Mount Kailash and Mansarovar are revered in multiple faiths:
Buddhists worship Kailash as Kang Ringpoche and Mansarovar as Tso Mapham. They revere Demchok (Chakrasamvara)—a manifestation similar to Lord Shiva—who is believed to reside atop Kailash. Legends of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and Milarepa enrich the spiritual history of this region. Their tantric traditions run parallel to Hindu practices, and important holy sites like Dolma La (Devi) and Gauri Kund (Thuki Zingbu) hold deep significance for Buddhist pilgrims seeking Nirvana.
For Jains, Kailash is known as Astapada, where Adinath Rishabhdeva, the first Tirthankara, attained Nirvana. This makes the region one of the holiest sites in Jain Dharma.
Local tradition suggests that Guru Nanak meditated in the vicinity of Kailash. A serene monastery across the Chu River houses a marble statue believed by many to represent Guru Nanak, radiating peace and compassion.

These symptoms can affect anyone, regardless of age or physical fitness. Gradual acclimatization is the safest way to adjust. Avoid tranquilizers, strong sleeping pills, and unnecessary antibiotics, as they can hinder natural acclimatization.
